With Pride Month kicking off in stiletto-style, it’s finally time to ‘drop’ my new Hollywood scandal novel, ‘Husbands‘ – a story that lands as Baby Reindeer viewers try to track down real-life ‘villains’, Kevin Spacey refutes more claims of bad behaviour and fashion label Abercrombie & Fitch do their level best to downplay accusations of abusive treatment from younger male models.
Set against the familiar glittering backdrop of Hollywood, this dark (and occasionally romantic) comedy unravels the disturbing realities that lurk beneath the dazzling veneer of the entertainment industry.
At the heart of “Husbands” is Kyle, a charming everyman supply teacher from Birmingham, who finds himself in something of what we elderly gays call ‘a right pickle‘ after drunkenly marrying a closeted A-list director in Las Vegas. As Kyle is swept into a world of scandal, murder, and deception, he must navigate the treacherous waters of the LA Dream Machine, where darker powers will stop at nothing to cover up misdeeds and silence their victims.
Real-life Hollywood stories
The inspiration for this novel came from shocking real-life stories of young gay actors in Hollywood who faced abuse and exploitation at the hands of influential studio moguls. These brave men shared their experiences off-the-record, and their harrowing accounts fuelled my determination to shed light on a dark reality.
But “Husbands” is more than an exposé; it’s a rollercoaster ride with unexpected twists, dark British humour, and a touching romance that blooms against all odds. As Kyle and Noah, a young actor with his own traumatic past, navigate growing feelings, I hope you’ll find yourself rooting for love to triumph over the sinister forces waiting to tear them apart.
Hidden from view
With a Pride Month release, “Husbands” is – I hope – able to serve as a tribute to the resilience and courage of the LGBTQ+ community. By confronting struggles that often remain hidden from view, I’m trying to spark meaningful conversations and inspire change. As regressive policies seek to silence and marginalise my community, stories like this matter more than ever.
Whether you’re after a decent bunch of gas and gossip tinged with revenge, or looking to support LGBTQ+ voices during Pride Month, my new book is out there hopefully fitting the bill.
