Shameless plug for my short story compilation

This is (not) america by Mo FanningThere are few things that excite me less than raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. These are not a few of my favourite things. Short story compilations are another thing. More of that soon.

I’m far more into consumer goods. This year, I plan to launch Mo’s Favourite Things List. Obviously I’ll be hoping to pick up a few Oprah-style freebies. Any listed parties should forward any (and all) products for placement in future novels to Fanning Towers, Brighton.

I’m kicking the list off with anything and everything from The Smeg Outlet Store – with the possible exception of their 50s-style dishwashers that struggle to fit anything bigger than a saucer.

In the corner of our current living room stands a cream coloured fridge. It arrived just a few days back from the outlet store and remains bound in plastic to protect it against the mould spores that grow on every wall in our current flat (for which we pay a King’s Ransom to occupy). It’s beautiful. The fridge, you understand, not the flat. They warned us it had a few scuffs, but unless you knew where to look, they’d pass you by. Nobody need know we’ve paid a fraction of the shop price.

The Smeg Outlet Store is my latest find and I recommend it to anyone moving house or doing up their current abode. There’s one in the UK and certainly one near Amsterdam.

The truly fabulous thing about them is they deliver in Smeg wagons. Nobody need know you’re getting a bargain. That’s extra swank with the neighbours who’ll instantly have you down as a feckless idler who fritters money on white (or cream) goods without a second thought. In the area of Brighton where I live, this is a Good Thing.

Given our general fridge fortune – longest life of a Franning fridge to date is 14 months without needing ‘attention’ – I’m hoping the new addition to our household will work for many years to come.

It’s the perfect place to store cake, the sort of cake so beloved of Anna. You can read about her plight in ‘About Time’ – part of my all new, all singing, all dancing short story compilation: ‘this is (not) america‘. It’s out now on Kindle – and available in all good bookshops before Christmas.
